Planet9 University Invitational Preview: League of Legends tournament featuring 8 London universities kicks off this week

Gaming community platform Planet9 has announced a new tournament for university students with its official partners Acer and Predator Gaming.

The Planet9 University Invitational will see eight London-based universities battling it out in League of Legends for a share of £2,000 in winnings.

The group stage gets underway this Thursday (November 12th), with the grand final taking place on Saturday November 21st from 2pm. The group stage matches will be conducted offline, while the finals will be broadcast.

Eight London teams will be split into two groups. The first consists of Central London universities that are part of the CLUE organisation (Imperial College London, London School of Economics, University College London and Kings College London).

The second group is made up of four universities representing Greater London: Royal Holloway University of London, University of Roehampton London, London South Bank University and Queen Mary University of London.

The winner will take home £1,000, the runner-up £500 and third-place £250. The overall tournament MVP will be awarded £250.

Partners for the Planet9 University Invitational include ACER and Predator Gaming. Esports solutions agency HudL.gg is also supporting the tournament. Casters and partnered influencers will be announced soon.
