Soleil “EwOk” Wheeler, the 15-year old Fortnite professional and member of FaZe Clan, announced on Sunday that he has come out as a bisexual transgender person. In a Twitlonger posted on Oct. 11, a date known by the LGBTQ community as  “Coming Out Day,” Wheeler addressed his coming out, the hardships associated with making such an announcement, and how for years he struggled, saying he “never felt right in a girl’s body.” Following the announcement the esports community has shown its support and rallied around Wheeler.

In his post, Wheeler talks about what it was like growing up and that he never really felt comfortable. “I never felt right in [a] girl’s body and struggled. When I was 11 years old, I dressed up like a boy and grabbed some of my little brother’s clothes. I took pictures. For the past eight years, I never was truly happy with myself and struggled.”

Wheeler made it a point to make his announcement on Coming Out Day and hopes that his journey can be helpful to others who may be struggling.

“I feel like a weight has been lifted and now I can live the life I see for myself,” Wheeler told The Esports Observer. “I hope by sharing my journey, it inspires any others struggling with identity to have the confidence to be their authentic self.”

When Wheeler made the announcement, he understood that there would be a lot of discussion by friends, fans, and others on social media–and that reaction has been positive. Numerous members of FaZe Clan and esports personalities voiced their support for Wheeler.

FaZe Clan and its members were in full support of Wheeler.

As well as some popular gaming personalities:

Now that Wheeler has come out, he knows that there is still more to come and while it won’t be easy, he can now live with being his true self.

“I know the transition and stuff will be tough for me. I am nervous as hell. This is huge especially [since] I am in FaZe and [the] first transgender guy in a Tier-1 esports organization. There are not many trans people in organizations or stuff like that,” Wheeler wrote. “I want to be as honest as possible with you guys. This is truly a big decision and I know it’ll impact some people. I’ll need y’alls support. I truly appreciate it if you support [it]. It means the world to me. Thank you. Thank you for being patient with me”
